Manuela Palmberger was one of the winners of the Polestar x Cherrydeck competition in 2019. Today, we talk with her about her experience driving the Polestar 1 in Munich.

Polestar and Cherrydeck have a new photography competition live. This time, photographers can win a chance of driving and shooting the Polestar 2 in an exclusive roadtrip throughout Germany.

In this interview, we talked with Manuela Palmberger, one of the winners of the previous edition, to hear more about her experience, driving Polestar, and hear her pieces of advice to this year’s candidates.

Manuela Palmberger-Daus
Manuela, we are delighted to speak to you today. To begin with, could you briefly introduce yourself?

I’m Manuela, a photographer from Munich, Germany. Originally, I’m from Garmisch- Partenkirchen, which maybe explains my passion for landscape and the outdoors.

I’m into photography since six or seven years now. It all began with a hobby, but since five years it has become my profession.

What lead you to start with photography? And especifically travel and cars?

As I started traveling I also started photographing, because I wanted to capture all the beautiful moments in my own pictures. But soon I realized that my pictures weren’t like the ones I saw on magazines, so I started wanting to get better.

The Polestar 1 was actually the first car I photographed, and it couldn’t have gone better. It was such a great new experience to shoot such a sportive car in urban and rural surroundings!

You were one of the five winners of the Polestar competition in 2019. How was it to drive the Polestar 1 in Munich?

Oh, that was really an extraordinary experience! In Munich everyone was looking at the car,
because no one had seen it yet and they were asking me so many questions about it.

But the real fun part was to drive to the mountains.

How would you describe the car? How was it to photograph it?

Oh, it was not that hard to get some nice pictures of it! The design is so clean and elegant. And I really liked the photographs in the city with a mix of architecture and car design.

It was also really easy and so comfortable to drive.

Did you have a favorite feature?

My favourite feature is that the Polestar 1 is a hybrid. When you’re driving in the city you can go all electric and without noise and emissions. But when you want to drive outside you have the reach of a „regular“ car, which is important for me when driving through the mountains.

From all the photographs you took of the Polestar 1, is there a favorite?

Oh there are a lot of pictures that I really love, but these here are two of my favourites.

Any advice you would give to photographers who want to take part in the Polestar x Cherrydeck Journey with the Polestar 2?

Make a plan. Do good reasearch about the locations where you want to shoot the car and get permissions if necessary.

Check your equipment twice and if everything works the day before you start. Check the weather forecast. Make a plan B. And don’t forget some snacks, shooting days can be long 😀

We would like to thank Manuela for her time and the interview. To see more of Manuela’s work, visit her Cherrydeck profile or her website, here. To participate in this year’s driving and photography experience, visit this article.
